Domaine de la Chauvillière

Domaine de la Chauvillière

Located in the Bons Bois growth area, the Domaine de la Chauvillière is a family vineyard of 62 hectares with a stunning microclimate. Established in 1950, the Hauselmann family produced Cognac and Pineau des Charentes in the commune of Sablonceaux in Charente Maritime, and now they produce everything on site, from vine to the bottle.

With mild and humid winters, along with dry summers protected from heavy storms, the vines can be grown in optimum conditions. The September light, subdued by sea mist and spray from the Atlantic allows for the slow ripening of their grapes.

It was, however, in the early 1980s that Eric and Max Hauselmann gave the domain a new lease of life. They restructured the vineyard by planting Chardonnay and Merlot grapes for the production of Vins de Pays Charentais. Then in 2014, Antoine and Yannick Hauselmann also settled on the estate.

They offer a selection of local Charentais wines, along with their Cognacs. Their style of production can be described as light and subtle; they avoid residual sugars and aim to create a selection that is easy to drink, with excellent structure.

If you would like to organize a tasting, they welcome visitors to their cellar every day except Sundays. The estate is equidistant from Saintes, Royal, Rochefort and Marennes.
