History of Cognac Croizet

Cognac Croizet was born from the dreams of one man, Léon Croizet. In fact, he probably had no choice in the matter, as wine making was in his blood. Born into a family of wine makers since the 16th century, it was the year 1805 that saw this former Sommelier to Napoleon I begin to make his dream come true. Cognac Croizet was born.

In 1871, Léon’s grandson Benjamin Léon Croizet registering the brand of Cognac Croizet and began the arduous task of exporting their products around the globe. Benjamin was a clever and educated man, and he succeeded not only in bringing Croizet to the tables and homes of far-off lands, but also in playing a major part in the creation of the “Cognac Appellation” that was brought into being in 1909. Along with that, his cognacs became recognized internationally and won many notable prizes as early as the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th century.

Benjamin can also be credited for helping to introduce the American grape varieties so widely used today after Phylloxera wiped out the vineyards of Cognac. Not only that, but he championed building small walls around certain areas of vineyards as protection, a method that was copied by other vineyards and helped protect the re-growth of the area. For this, Benjamin Croizet was given the Légion d’Honneur by the French president.

The house of Croizet Cognac continued to develop throughout the 20th century, with the family continuing to nurture and tend to the brand. In 1892, Léonie Croizet’s marriage allowed the family to come into possession of some priceless vintage cognacs. This happy “merger” allowed the house to be one of only three cognac houses selected to be able to sell vintage cognacs in 1963.

Croizet Cognac Today

Today Croizet Cognac is poised on the verge of a big change. The house has now left the founding family’s hands for the first time in history and has been sold to new owners. Entrusted with a brand that is so well thought of in the industry, the new proprietors are keen to work with both innovation and tradition to further write more chapters in the company’s history books.

A sign of Cognac Croizet’s innovative outlook is its look towards China. Since some time, the cognac house has an official satellite in Hong Kong.

News, Products and Prices

Boasting a full range of cognacs, from Croizet VS through to Croizet Extra, the brand also has a privileged range of vintage cognacs. These include Cognac Croizet Cuvée Léonie and the Cognac Croizet Cuvée Legion d’Honneur 1883.
