Courvoisier Cognac

Courvoisier is amongst the four leading Cognac houses in the world - also known as the 'Big Four'. Legend has it that the emperor Napoléon himself chose Courvoisier as his preferred Cognac, therefore Courvoisier brandy is often referred to as “The Cognac of Napoleon”. The company dates back to 1828 and since has its headquarters in the town of Jarnac. With prestigious bottles such as Courvoisier Napoléon or Josephine, the Cognac house is at the top of the luxury spirits market. The Courvoisier VS, VSOP, and Rose Liqueur are also very popular. The drink is strongly ingrained in US Hip Hop culture with Busta Rhymes and P Diddy dedicating the song “Pass the Courvoisier” to the traditional brand.

The Courvoisier Story
The legendary history of Courvoisier Cognac goes back to the early 1800s, when Emmanuel Courvoisier and Louis Gallois founded a wine merchant’s business in Paris.
Soon after, their sons, Felix and Jules, figured out that Cognac was their true passion and they moved the business to Jarnac in the heart of the Cognac region to start up Courvoisier in 1828.
Felix Courvoisier died without a son, so his nephews and their families continued the Cognac tradition until the early 20th century when the English family Simon bought the Cognac house. The Simons created a strong international brand identity with a new logo of the silhouette of Napoleon for the bottles.

On April 21, 2013, I purchased a bottle of V.S.O.P. at the duty free store in Las Vegas, Nevada. By the time I arrived to my home in Vancouver, British Columbia, about 40 ml of cognac leaked around the cork and the metallic foil. The bottle had an ID 3-049917-210172. I would expect a better quality control of the corking procedure.

Napoleon Bonaparte died in 1821. His death then pre dates the arrival of Courvoisier. Perhaps the reference is to a later Emperor Napoleon or maybe you have your facts muddled up about the birth of the cognac house.

courvoisier is the classiest cognac brand, it is, Napoleon's brandy, after all!
I got a bottle of VSOP at a duty free in Doha. It had lost over 100ml in the 4 hour flight. The box was soaking wet and ruined other stuff in the bag. Even the cheapest liquor would not leak that bad.
