History of J. Balluet Cognac

The house of Balluet Cognac has always been, and remains to this day, a tiny, family run affair. The house was founded in 1845, and is located in a hamlet in the heart of the Fins Bois terroir. From the moment the house was established, this independent family has always been a little, 'renegade'. For instance, the fourth generation Cellar Master, Hippolyte, was not only an active resistance fighter in WWII. But in the 1950s when one of the big Cognac producers to whom the family sold a lot of their eaux-de-vie decided to dramatically reduced their order, Hippolyte simply cut them off completely! Instead, he moved into direct sales under the family name, and this has continued every since.

J. Balluet Cognac Today

Today Balluet Cognac is run by Jean Balluet. He continues to make Cognac in the traditional manner, and even uses the same copper still as that of his ancestors. Their range is small, but of top quality, and definitely worth tasting.

News, products, anecdotes, and awards

The youngest quality Coganac produced by Ballet is a VSOP. The others are a Tres Vieille Reserve and a Tres Vieille Reserve Napoleon.

The white grape variety is the main vineyard of the property located in the heart of the region delimited by "fine woods" of cognac.

The harvest of white grapes on the J. Balluet wineyard located in the "fine woods" raw cognac is essential to the quality of their products.
