"A pre-phylloxera Cognac - a term which refers to the period before the Great French Wine Blight that occurred when a large group of tiny yellow insects destroyed a large number of grapevines by killing their roots. The insects were introduced to Europe around 1860, almost two years after Croizet Cognac Leonie had been locked away in the Croizet family “paradis.” B. Leon Croizet had the habit of receiving many guests at Chateau de Flaville and treating them to his pre-Phyloxxera cognac's. He had 2 favorites, one distilled by his Grandfather , Vintage 1842 and the other by his Father, Vintage 1860. A large part of the Paradis Cellar at Cognac Croizet is made up from these two vintages.
