Domaine de Danis
Domaine de Danis is a family Armagnac estate in Castelnau d’Auzan Labarrère, in the Gers, where Vincent and Victoire Piquemal produce Armagnacs and white Côtes de Gascogne wines. Passed down through generations for more than four centuries, the domaine works 38 hectares of white grape varieties at the edge of the Landes forest. Its Armagnacs are mainly shaped by Folle Blanche, a grape admired for freshness, elegance and aromatic persistence, alongside Ugni Blanc for selected eaux-de-vie. Domaine de Danis follows a complete estate approach: growing the vines, harvesting, vinifying, distilling with a traditional mobile Armagnac still, ageing in oak and bottling only its own production. The result is a distinctive range of mature, natural-style Armagnacs, released after long ageing and known for precision, fruit, spice, finesse and a clear Gascon identity.

Domaine de Danis Today
Domaine de Danis Today: Domaine de Danis is a family-run Armagnac and Côtes de Gascogne estate located in Castelnau d’Auzan Labarrère, in the Gers department of southwest France. Today, brother and sister Vincent and Victoire Piquemal work together at the head of the domaine, continuing a Gascon family story that has remained attached to the same land for more than four centuries.
The estate covers 38 hectares of white grape varieties at the edge of the Landes forest. Much of the vineyard is used for expressive Côtes de Gascogne white wines, made from grapes such as Colombard, Sauvignon and Gros Manseng. Armagnac, however, remains a central part of the domaine’s identity, with Folle Blanche and Ugni Blanc grown specifically for distillation. This dual production gives Domaine de Danis a strong link between winegrowing, distillation and long cellar ageing.
History of Domaine de Danis
The Danis estate has been passed from generation to generation for over four centuries. Its story is built on attachment to the Armagnac region, to the land of Danis and to the work of the independent winegrower. The Piquemal family has continued this direction with a hands-on philosophy: working the vines, harvesting the grapes, vinifying the wines, distilling, ageing, bottling and selling only their own production.
Armagnac was already produced by earlier generations, but the first official bottlings under the Domaine de Danis name were released by Victor and Aline Piquemal in 1986. Today, Vincent and Victoire have given the domaine a clear identity based on estate production, long ageing and a particular affection for Folle Blanche. Victoire is especially associated with this grape variety, and Domaine de Danis vintages from 1982 onward are strongly linked to Folle Blanche, while older releases may include Baco and Ugni Blanc.
The Vineyard and the Danis Style
Domaine de Danis grows only white grape varieties. For the wines, the estate focuses on aromatic freshness and fruit expression, with techniques such as cold maceration, cold settling and ageing on fine lees. For Armagnac, the emphasis is different: the domaine seeks acidic, aromatic base wines that can produce fine, expressive eaux-de-vie after distillation.
Folle Blanche is central to the Danis style. Known for producing refined, aromatic and persistent Armagnacs, it gives the domaine’s eaux-de-vie a fresh and elegant profile. Ugni Blanc adds structure and balance in selected releases. Together, these grape varieties help create Armagnacs with lift, energy and depth, while long oak ageing brings notes of fruit, spice, gentle wood, dried flowers and mature complexity.
Distillation and Ageing
After the harvest, the grapes are pressed and fermented into a light wine suited for distillation. Each year, a traditional mobile Armagnac still comes to the estate to transform the wine into “la Blanche,” the clear young spirit that will become Armagnac after years in barrel. This keeps Domaine de Danis close to an old Gascon distillation custom, while allowing Vincent and Victoire to guide the process according to their own style.
The eau-de-vie is then placed in oak barrels, often referred to locally as “pièces.” The domaine releases Armagnacs only after more than 10 years of ageing, giving the spirit time to soften, gain color and develop aromatic depth. External profiles of the estate describe a system using both wet and dry cellars, helping the Armagnacs evolve naturally over time. This patient approach supports the domaine’s reputation for mature, expressive and non-standardized bottlings.
Independent Winegrower Spirit
Domaine de Danis follows the spirit of the Vignerons Indépendants charter: cultivating its own vines, transforming its own grapes and welcoming visitors to present the results of its work. The estate is also certified HVE, reflecting an environmental approach based on preserving vines, woods, hedges, meadows and flowers around the domaine.
For Armagnac lovers, Domaine de Danis is a producer with a strong sense of place. Its bottles are not designed to feel anonymous or industrial. They express one family, one estate and one Gascon landscape, with Folle Blanche at the heart of the range. From older vintages to long-aged releases, Domaine de Danis offers Armagnacs full of freshness, character and natural aromatic precision.
