Black Goupil Single Malt Whisky
Description
Black Goupil Maple Cask Finish Single Malt French Whisky
Distilled in July 2021 in Normandy using a double Charentais pot still, this single malt matured for three years in French oak before spending a further ten months in ex-Bourbon barrels that had contained Canadian maple syrup. Bottled in June 2025 at 44.8 % ABV, only 752 bottles were released. The whisky secured a Gold medal at the Concours International de Lyon 2025, achieving 90/100.
The maple cask finish adds gentle sweetness to the malt’s grain-forward character, creating notes of caramel, vanilla and light wood smoke balanced by a clean, dry oak backbone.
Presentation of the bottle
The squat, rounded 70 cl bottle is closed with a cork, bound in twine and sealed with bright yellow wax. Its cream-toned label, featuring vintage type and the black-fox logo, lists key production details. A slim gift box shows a sunrise over wooded hills dotted with orange and yellow maple leaves and carries the Lyon 2025 Gold medal sticker—ready for gifting or display.
How to drink
Serve 2 cl neat in a tulip glass at 16-18 °C to appreciate the maple influence. A few drops of still spring water open extra layers of vanilla and fruit. The whisky pairs well with nut-based cheeses or a square of dark chocolate.
