Color: Red amber.

Nose: Stewed yellow fruits and preserved exotic jams up front—think apricot and mango—layered with mixed honeys. A quiet backdrop of fir and mint adds freshness. There’s a light vinous note underneath, suggesting water might unlock more depth. With water, earthy elements come forward—damp soil, moss, and the humid air of a greenhouse.

Palate: Intense and expressive. Resinous oak and a slight wine cask influence take the lead, but are well balanced by mint and exotic wood tones. The structure is firm but inviting. With water, the rustic character of Ténarèze shines through—grassy, earthy, and gently spiced.

Finish: Long and cohesive. Layers of honey, soft resins, ripe tropical fruit, and forest floor elements linger together. Grounded and complete.

Description

Hontambère 1995 Pouchegu Armagnac – Cask #B4

Discover the exceptional Hontambère 1995 Pouchegu Armagnac, drawn from the famed stock of Pouchegu and now released as Cask #B4. Crafted exclusively using Ugni Blanc grapes and matured patiently for 30 years, this expression is bottled at a robust 54.8% ABV, presenting an unapologetically bold profile. Only 200 bottles are available worldwide—an opportunity for true enthusiasts.

Presentation of the bottle

The bottle conveys its story with elegance: deep amber liquid visible through classical clear glass, crowned with a dark wooden cork and minimalist label. The label carries essential details—vintage year, cask number, age statement, and strength—highlighting its single‑cask authenticity. The overall design is understated yet distinguished, focusing attention on the spirit inside.

How to drink

Serve neat to fully appreciate its intensity and layered flavors—best in a tulip‑shaped glass. A few minutes of air will release the rich aromas of fruit and smoky honey. Add a drop of water only if needed to open the profile slightly—this is a spirit that shines at cask strength. Ideally enjoyed as a contemplative digestif, paired with dark chocolate, spiced fruit desserts, or fine cigars.

About Château de Hontambère

Château de Hontambère is a focused Armagnac producer in the Ténarèze area, near Castelnau-d’Auzan. The estate is young by Armagnac standards, with its own production beginning in 2008, but it has quickly built a strong reputation among collectors for cask-strength, single-cask and grape-specific bottlings. With around 42 hectares of vineyards planted with Colombard, Ugni Blanc, Baco and Folle Blanche, Hontambère produces expressive Armagnacs that combine fruit, structure, spice and the firm character of Ténarèze terroir.
