Description
Hontambère Vintage 1980 Pouchegu Armagnac
From the legendary Pouchegu cellar, this 1980 Vintage Armagnac Ténarèze is a treasure aged for 45 years in a dry cellar and bottled at natural cask strength of 45.4%. It hails from Cask A10, one of only 80 bottles produced, and was crafted from 100% Ugni Blanc grapes.
Matured in original French oak barrels from Limousin, this Armagnac offers a stunning profile — a balance of strength, maturity, and elegance. It represents the soulful legacy of traditional Armagnac-making and comes to market under the Hontambère name, selected by RAC Spirits.
This expression belongs to the AERE series, known for showcasing single-grape, single-cask, long-aged Armagnacs of exceptional provenance. “UR” marks this release as part of a curated collection of rare bottlings.
With intense aromas, textural depth, and a character shaped by decades in wood, this is an Armagnac that stands out — both for connoisseurs and collectors seeking authenticity and time-wrought complexity.
Presentation of the bottle
Each of the 80 bottles is individually numbered and hand-filled, retaining its artisanal essence. The labeling is clean and informative, highlighting the grape, cask, year, and series — a minimal yet elegant look that suits the serious character of what’s inside.
How to drink
Best enjoyed neat at room temperature in a tulip glass. The natural strength is perfectly integrated and needs no dilution. Ideal for long, contemplative sipping and moments worth remembering.
About Château de Hontambère
Château de Hontambère is a focused Armagnac producer in the Ténarèze area, near Castelnau-d’Auzan. The estate is young by Armagnac standards, with its own production beginning in 2008, but it has quickly built a strong reputation among collectors for cask-strength, single-cask and grape-specific bottlings. With around 42 hectares of vineyards planted with Colombard, Ugni Blanc, Baco and Folle Blanche, Hontambère produces expressive Armagnacs that combine fruit, structure, spice and the firm character of Ténarèze terroir.
