Eye: Rich amber with mahogany reflections.

Nose: Scents of vanilla bean accompanied by soft honey and nougat followed by some more mature tobacco leaf and rancio characteristics.

Palate: Rich mouthfeel with flavors of honey and cocoa. The black oak tannins show towards the finish, retaining the sweet notes throughout.

Description

L'encantada XO Gnac Armagnac

The L'encantada XO Gnac Armagnac is a subtle blend of Bas-Armagnac eaux-de-vie, some of which have been matured for 20 or 30 years in black oak barrels from Gascony. The name alludes to a local nickname for Armagnac; the purpose is to show an everyday expression that has wider appeal - a perfect introduction to this corner of the spirit world.

“We wanted to speak to a younger audience, to rejuvenate the image of Armagnac with our XO Gnac. With Gnac, several interpretations are possible: to have the ‘gnaque’, to have bite, or the spirit of competition, in short, of dynamism, which perhaps characterizes us, but with us, in Gascony, it is also a abbreviation to speak of Armagnac.”  - Frédéric Chappe, Trade Manager at L’encantada

“GNAC is an Armagnac which is easy to taste, a product to share.“ - Vincent Cornu, Cellar Master

The producers that supply Armagnac to L'encantada have distilled their eaux-de-vie in the heart of their domains using mobile stills heated by wood fires. Aged slowly in their spirit cellars, these Armagnacs are personally selected by the cellar master at L'encantada and only bottled once they’ve reached their optimal maturity. Every expression is brut de fût, which means no coloring, sugar or water has been added. The founders Christelle, Vincent and Frédéric are first and foremost dedicated to the preservation of Armagnac craftsmanship, and over the years they have curated an exclusive collection of rare pearls, forgotten elixirs and exceptional pieces to share and savor.

Produced in the Gascony region of southwest France, between the Adour and Garonne rivers in the foothills of the Pyrenees, the history of Armagnac dates back to at least the 15th century. The terroir here is rugged and earthy, spread across rolling hills drenched in sunshine during the long summer - resulting in dark, rich and rustic eaux-de-vie with concentrated aromas. Traditionally produced using wines made from Colombard, Baco Blanc, Folle Blanche and Ugni Blanc grapes, Armagnac is distilled in column stills rather than pot stills, and distilled only once. The resulting spirit is generally of a low ABV - around 52% - and is then aged in oak barrels before being bottled.

Presentation of the Bottle

Sturdy and simple, the bottle design has a ‘craft’ look, with dark blue calligraphy script on the label perfectly matching the blue wax which covers the stopper.

How to Enjoy Armagnac L'encantada XO Gnac

Pour into a tulip glass and let it rest for 30 seconds or so before taking a sip - this will allow the aromas to fully develop, giving the optimal drinking experience. Try it with fruit compote, tarte tatin or a hot espresso for the ultimate tasting experience.
