Armagnac Ferté de Partenay 1950
Description
Armagnac Ferté de Partenay 1950: Mid-Century Perfection
Ferté de Partenay, located in the heart of Bas-Armagnac, are famous for selecting and aging the best eaux-de-vie and have produced to date one of the finest collections of vintage Armagnac in the world. The Armagnac Ferté de Partenay 1950 is a vintage Armagnac made from grapes harvested in autumn of 1950. Matured in 400-litre black oak casks for over half a century, it has developed a rich structure to complement the floral nuances of the eaux-de-vie. Single harvest Armagnacs such as this represent beautiful snapshots of the past, giving a glimpse into the individual characteristics created by variations in rainfall, cloud cover and temperature.
The house of Ferté de Partenay in the little fortified town of Lannepax, located in the heart of the Bas-Armagnac, selects and ages outstanding eaux-de-vie to be aged for generations; some of their casks are two centuries old. Armagnac has been produced in this region since at least the 15th century. The terroir here is a mixture of sand and clay, spread across rolling hills drenched in sunshine during the long summer - resulting in dark, rich and rustic eaux-de-vie with concentrated aromas.
Traditionally produced using wines made from Colombard, Baco Blanc, Folle Blanche and Ugni Blanc grapes, Armagnac is distilled in column stills rather than pot stills, and distilled only once. The resulting spirit is generally of a low ABV - around 52% - and as soon as it is distilled, the Armagnac is transferred to oak casks to mature. Enriched over time with the aromas from the wood, it opens up to develop fantastic complexity and color over time. Only when it reaches full maturity can the richness and power of an Armagnac be truly appreciated.
Presentation of the Bottle
Shown in a classic ‘basquaise’ bottle, this is a timeless release. The curved shape, dark glass, cork cage and brown paper label give an antique feel to the packaging, beautifully complemented by a rustic wooden presentation box.
How to Serve Armagnac Ferté de Partenay 1950
We recommend serving this outstanding vintage Armagnac with rich desserts or even a cheeseboard. Pour into tulip glasses, and allow the spirit to rest for up to a minute to let the aromas concentrate, expressing the full aromas of this rare single harvest.
