Description
Delamain Ancestral Collection Apogée Cognac: the Pinnacle of Premier Cru Elegance
Showing what extraordinary skill and patience can achieve, Delamain Ancestral Collection Apogée Cognac is yet another stellar expression from this famed producer. Like all releases from Maison Delamain, this is a Cognac of exceptional age made only with eaux-de-vie from Grande Champagne. This rare unblended Cognac comes from a single cask and represents the epitome of what quality eau-de-vie can become, aged across several generations of stewardship. To preserve all its flavor, it has been bottled at a cask strength of 43.5% ABV without any blending or reduction.
Matured in a 350L oak cask made with French oak from the Tronçais forest, this Cognac has experienced only a mild influence of tannins, preserving all the complexity and rich fruit notes of the wine used to make it. The cask has spent its life in the Grand Chai, also known as the Founder’s cellar, placed opposite a south-facing window where thin rays of summer sunshine and cool breezes from the Charente river has graced it for decades. The result is a Cognac of sublime complexity and balance.
Known worldwide for their excellence, the family-owned Maison Delamain are rare in that they produce only well-aged expressions rather than the VS and VSOP bottlings favored by other producers. This unrivalled passion for creating vintage Cognac has been passed down from generation to generation since 1759, the year when James Delamain left Ireland to settle in Jarnac as a Cognac merchant. His grandson Henri founded Maison Delamain in 1824, and today the 9th generation of the Delamain family still runs the company - with a total of fifteen employees. Known for keeping to extremely old-fashioned production methods, they are also the only Cognac producer which exclusively releases Cognac aged XO or older. While they pride themselves on their Grande Champagne AOC, Maison Delamain prefer to not be tied to any specific winegrower or purchasing contract, instead of selecting individually the finest wines available every year.
With every drop of Delamain Cognac expressing the pinnacle of quality and taste, this unique producer proves time and time again that hard work really does pay off.
